Family Strengthening Programme Fort Portal

This programme, still in its infancy, began operating in September 2009. It is manned by full time staff and volunteers. It has its interventions in one parish that comprises 7 villages. Currently 200 children have been recruited for FSP support from 59 households and plans are underway to recruit another 200 children participants next year. Though still a new programme several achievements have been made.

Community Sensitization meeting

Orientation meetings with key stakeholders have been held where the baseline report outcomes have been disseminated
A community sensitisation meeting held in October 2009 and selection of community based volunteers was done by the community
A three day training for community based volunteers and committee members in vulnerability assessment, group formation, communication skills, volunteerism, conflict management and child protection/abuse was conducted
Identification of children eligible for support based on a the Ppogramme selection criteria
Initial assessment exercise conducted and child participants recruited
Assessment of community based partners and selection of the partner organisation
Family development planning with the families
Assessment of the health centre where medical services are to be accessed by programme participants and developing the memorandum of understanding
