Family Strengthening Programme Entebbe

The programme started in January 2008 in the peripheral areas of the SOS Children Village Entebbe. The programme has its interventions in one parish that comprises 5 villages with a dense population. Currently there are 200 hundred children from 61 families that are supported through the programme.

Key achievements:

Group Income generating projects have taken root in FSP Entebbe; three groups are in operation - the crafts group whose products have crossed the boundaries of Uganda, the vegetable growing group that supplies the SOS families and staff in Entebbe on a weekly basis and the Groundnuts Group that supplies the local communities. All groups have business plans and members have started reaping the benefits. In addition 10 individual income generating activities have been supported and this has uplifted the income base of the respective families
A reduction in the number of beneficiaries that seek medical support on monthly basis as a result of improvement in preventative health measures
Monthly monitoring conducted by the staff to assess the progress of the families
All the families have been equipped with parenting development skills
Caregiver/child relationship improved as a result of the parenting skills trainings and behaviour change and communication sessions
Progress in children’s performance as a result of transferring them to schools that meet the minimal standards set by the Ministry of Education Uganda
